Yep its my 40th Birthday today!
I can’t begin to tell you how long I’ve been waiting :)
I’ve always heard that the 30’s were good, but that the 40’s and beyond for women are awesome!
So I’m very excited!
Today is all about ME. I’m being very lazy and low key and quietly happy and introspective.
Oh yes I’ve had amazing birthday bashes in the past. I think it was when I turned 23, I threw a “funeral party” with black and white balloons and scads of Cook’s champagne magnums. I was the “old lady” of my roommates in college – i had just returned to finish up – hence the funeral theme.
It was fun! I have pictures from it somewhere. I was dressed in my shimmering white pantsuit with the Marilyn Monroe top – the same outfit I wore to my prom – and I had a cute new boyfriend too. My co-workers, roommates and their pals were there.
Then later on when I was working in Northern Cali at a dot com, I was making enough money to rent out the VIP space at a local nightclub. I catered in lots of yummy spicy Indian food and friends and co workers alike had a blast!
When I first moved out here to AZ, my buddy J came to take me down to Mexico for my birthday and we partied in this darling little restaurant, and looked around at all the cool stuff, and talked to tons of people in the cute little border town.
Bashes, and dinners aside I’m of two minds this year. I don’t have scads of friends, and since I work for myself, the only co worker I have is my kitty – who loves to “help type” by dancing around on my keyboard!
I would love to have close knit pals like the girls on Sex and the City, but I do know that all that will come again, and I’ll have plenty of occasions as well as birthdays to celebrate life, friends and fun.
I’m used to being alone, and while it would be fun to have some sort of bash, or “do something” to mark this occasion, I’m well satisfied to indulge myself with myself and kitty and have a Day Of Me. (And chocolate cake!)
I just got off the phone with Ken! He was in the airport waiting for his flight home. Good thing I’d found out the Queen of Purr had yanked the phone cord out the wall (again!) and I’d plugged it back in about an hour or so earlier. He’s going to call back later when he’s home and the girls are going to sing for me yay!
Thanks to everyone for all the cards, gifts and well wishes! I’m still basking in the glow of the Best Present we ALL could ever have – Barack Obama as President-Elect – and everything else is yummy cherries on top of that delicious ice cream sundae.
Nothing profound to impart from my years of wisdom hah! Only that keep yourself open to the endless possibilities that the Universe has to offer. And that is applicable to any age. I leave you with one of my favorite sayings. Taken from Anne McCaffrey’s Dragon Books. When Lessa nearly died doing the impossible and the future of a planet was held in the balance:
Who wills,
Can.
Who tries,
Does.
Who loves,
Lives.

Happy birthday!
